2025 Summer Internship Program
Location:
This internship role is scheduled to be flexible. Please be prepared to spend part of your time working remotely and part of your time working at the following address: 100 S Los Robles Ave Pasadena CA 91101.
Department Description:
The Service-Learning Course in Health System Science focuses on teaching critical consciousness and exploring social accountability in relation to addressing health inequities in the community. In our course, we educate first- and second-year medical students about structural factors and health inequities. Students also complete a practicum project in groups over two years to address community-defined needs at the Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) to which they are assigned.
Intern Project(s):
The intern will review the last five years of student practicum projects, including those completed and those still in progress. They will analyze the themes present in these projects and assist with a literature review related to these themes. Additionally, the intern will review student Practicum Workbooks and didactic materials to provide comprehensive insights into the practicum experience.

Target Skills:
Organizational Skills: Being able to manage and organize large amounts of data and documents. This includes skills in time management, scheduling, and maintaining detailed records. Research Skills: Proficiency in conducting literature searches, understanding research methodologies, and synthesizing information from various sources is vital. Analytical Skills: The ability to analyze data, identify patterns, and draw conclusions is important for identifying themes in community projects. Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills are necessary for collaborating with medical professionals and presenting findings clearly and effectively. Teamwork and Collaboration: Being able to work well in a team, share ideas, and contribute to group projects is essential, especially in an educational, medical setting where interdisciplinary collaboration is common. Attention to Detail: Precision in handling data and documents ensures accuracy and reliability in research findings. Technical Skills: Proficiency with software tools like Microsoft Office, Excel, and reference management tools.
