Department Description:

The Kaiser Permanente School of Medicine - Health Systems Science department mission includes: 1) the pursuit of a broad scholarship agenda that will improve health, health care, and health equity through systems transformation and redesign; and 2) delivery of an innovative foundational curriculum in four domains: community and population health, health care and social systems, quality and safety, and research methods to inform evidence-based clinical practice.

Intern Project(s):

The Filipino Family Health Initiative study is an NIH-funded randomized controlled trial that is looking for one master’s level intern interested in assisting with data collection (survey administration), literature review, and other study activities such as recruitment and consent. The first aim of the study is to test the effectiveness of the online Incredible Years model of parent training and its impact on the following outcomes: parent-reported positive verbal discipline,child-reported child depression, and anxiety symptoms, parent-reported physical punishment,parent-reported child internalizing behavior, parent-reported child depression & anxiety symptoms, and parent- and child-reported youth resilience among Filipino parents of children ages 8-12 years old. We hypothesize that parents in the experimental group will report improvements in outcomes immediately following intervention at 3 months, compared to baseline and control condition, and that families in the experimental group will show sustained improvements in primary and secondary outcomes at 6 months post-baseline, compared to themselves at baseline and at 3 months. The second aim is to determine the impact of the level of intervention engagement (i.e., higher attendance) on parenting practices and child behavior outcomes. We hypothesize that Incredible Years parent training engagement will be positively associated with improvements in the above outcomes. To learn more, visitfilipinofamilyhealth.com.
