2025 Summer Internship Program
Location:
This internship role is scheduled to be flexible. Please be prepared to spend part of your time working remotely and part of your time working at the following address: 1 Kaiser Plaza, Oakland, CA 94612
Department Description:
National Patient Care Services (NPCS) supports all markets across Kaiser Permanente through councils that aim to support our nursing operations: 1. Nursing Workforce and Professional Development, 2. Care transformation and technology, 3. Clinical outcomes and quality (experience, nurse sensitive indicators), 4. Clinical Practice, and 5. Nursing research and EBP (data analytics, financial, patient and nursing outcomes). We provide analytics (dashboards and reports) across our national markets on metrics related to finance, nursing retention, patient outcomes, nurse outcomes, and patient/nurse satisfaction, from national to the medical center level. Nursing Research and EBP are a focus as Magnet Designation is being led by NPCS enterprise-wide.
Intern Project(s):
Updating a visualization tool/ dashboard using PowerBI for executive leaders in projecting financial data for quick interpretation that drives towards action/intervention (e.g., Based on historical HPPD, what can we project into the next pay cycle, OverTime, Break time coverage and pay)
Creating a dashboard on patient outcomes (e.g., falls, HAPI, CAUTI, CLABSI, C diff) from market to medical center level detailed views and quickly see if we meet or don't meet benchmarks and goals and correlations to other outcomes.
Target Majors:
Math/Statistics; Public Health; Healthcare Administration; Data Science; Public Relations and Communications
Target Skills:
Moderate excel skills required.
Experience with PowerBI required.
Experience with Tableau, PowerApps optional.
Ability to clean data in Excel, translate data into something that is visually clear to executive leadership and is actionable in PowerBI (SmartSheet, R, SAS also available).

- Aptitude to perform data and process analytics and formulating solutions.
- Working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
- 3.0 GPA or above
- Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills
- Proven ability to build effective working relationships as well as strong interpersonal skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to learn quickly and experience producing high quality work in short periods of time.
