2025 Summer Internship Program



Location:


This role is scheduled to be 100% remote. While remote, finalists MUST reside in one of the following states to be eligible for employment with Kaiser Permanente: CA, OR, WA, HI, CO, GA, MD, VA, CT, DC, or IL.


Department Description:


Provide actuarial services to develop best-practice actuarial models and promote implementation program-wide. Accountable for the development of the organization’s rate structure, maintenance of adequate reserves, and development of new products.  Provide data/analytic expertise to support actuarial services including financial reporting, fee schedule development, trend analysis, utilization studies, rate development and claims liability estimates.  



Intern Project(s):


Support IBNR request: run claim lag report and help explain abnormal IBNR factors. 
Data validation for large purchasers: Provide RUW data to Pricing Data team; Review encounter data; Develop knowledge of standard utilization measures and ability to identify data anomalies.
Help with monthly model version release tasks such as uploading factor tables and peer reviewing inputs.
Help with rating exhibits for Feds work.
Help with rate filing work.

Data Science; Finance & Accounting; Math/Statistics



Target Skills:


Pass at least one actuarial exam.
Outstanding academic performance with GPA 3.0 above.
Curiosity and willingness to ask lots of questions.
Open-minded to constructive feedback.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Enjoys problem-solving.
Working knowledge of Microsoft office.

  • Pursuing a bachelors degree or have graduated from an accredited university within the last year.

  • Aptitude to perform data and process analytics and formulating solutions
  • Working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3.0 GPA or above.
  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven ability to build effective working relationships as well as strong interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to learn quickly and experience producing high quality work in short periods of time.
