Description:
Job Summary:

Assist the Sterile Processing manager in coordinating the activities of SPD with particular focus on flexible endoscope and endocavity probe reprocessing. Provide support to clinic managers responsible for endoscope/endocavity reprocessing areas. Support may include but not be limited to; staff training, initial and annual competency review, and performing audits. Develops and maintains on-going staff development.



Essential Responsibilities:


  • Oversees the cleaning, decontamination assembly, sterilization or high-level disinfection of all reusable medical instrumentation in the medical center or satellite clinics with an emphasis on flexible endoscope/endocavity probe reprocessing.  Monitors and reports compliance with sterilization and high-level disinfection mandatory testing processes in the medical center and satellite clinics.  

  •  Performs audits to all sterilization and high-level disinfection sites for the purpose of monitoring at scheduled and random intervals.  Demonstrates knowledge of department policies and procedures regarding decontamination, and sterilization/high-level disinfection and consistently articulates same to staff, managers and physicians.

  • Collaborates with sterile processing and/or department managers for employee and department safety, and risk management issues.

  • Kaiser Permanente conducts compensation reviews of positions on a routine basis.  At any time, Kaiser Permanente reserves the right to reevaluate and change job descriptions, or to change such positions from salaried to hourly pay status.  Such changes are generally implemented only after notice is given to affected employees.

  • Assist the Sterile Processing manager in coordinating SPD department activities, that includes department policy review and development, employee performance.

Basic Qualifications:
Experience


  • Minimum three (3) years of experience in Sterile Processing, OR, or GI, which includes flexible endoscope reprocessing.

Education

  • Bachelors degree OR four (4) years of experience in Sterile Processing, OR, or GI, which includes flexible endoscope reprocessing.
  • High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) required.
License, Certification, Registration
  • N/A
Additional Requirements:

  • Supervisory experience required.
  • Knowledge of AAMI standards, The Joint Commission, SGNA and other local, state, federal regulations.
  • Data processing experience required.
  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal communication skills.
  • Must be able to work in a Labor/Management Partnership environment.
  • Maintain membership with IAHCSMM and/or Society for Gastroenterology Nurses and Associates (SGNA).
Preferred Qualifications:

  • Sterile Processing Technician and/or Sterile Processing Manager certification strongly preferred from International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management (IAHCSMM) or Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD).
  • Flexible scope reprocessor certification strongly preferred from CBSPD.
