Job Summary:

Performs Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) examinations; provides assistance to physician(s) during exam; recognizes and reports patient emergency situations and/or MRI specific adverse events.



Essential Responsibilities:


  • Performs specialized MRI studies; positions patients and provides immobilization means and patient counseling; instructs patient of exam requirements; selects appropriate protocols by having knowledge to tailor scan of each patient while producing superior image quality.

  • Maintains daily records of exams performed.

  • Receives and double identifies patients using appropriate criteria prior to performing the study ordered.

  • Ensures accuracy of information and data entry.

  • Post processes digital images, including specific reconstructions.

  • Prepares images for Radiologist interpretation and transmits images to the Diagnostic Imaging PACS system. 

  • Assures correct patient identification information is captured on all recorded images.

  • Captures required documentation in Radiology Information System (RIS). 

  • Prepares, loads, programs and operates the contrast injector.

  • Assists with screening patients for contraindications.

  • Verifies preparation procedures are proper and in order; oversees intravenous (IV) management; prevents accidents for patients and visitors by identifying extreme safety hazards involved with MRI; documents pre-screening methods on MRI questionnaire.

  • Screens patients with MRI screening questionnaire for contraindications prior to performing procedure.

  • Contraindications that present are all cleared prior to proceeding with the exam.

  • Interprets unusual tissue contract patterns and alters or adds protocols as necessary to enhance diagnosis.

  • Functions as part of resuscitation team during Code Blue and/or Rapid Response Team situations; after patient has been removed from the scan room (Zone 4). Provides assistance to physician(s) during exam, reports patient emergency situations.

  • Identifies potential equipment crisis by troubleshooting including monitoring coil functionality (transmit and receive), cryogen levels, system temperatures and RF signal interference, etc.

  • Documents any errors or equipment malfunctions in service log when Chief Technologist is not available.

  • Assumes responsibilities for the needs of patient during procedure.

  • Provides service-oriented communications with patient; explaining procedure; answering questions. 

  • Emphasizes a personalized, individualized, compassionate patient care atmosphere at all times.

  • Dismisses patients for transport and/or assists with patient transport at end of procedure.

  • Reviews orders, prepares schedules and consults with attending Radiologists and Registered Nurses as necessary.

  • Maintains all materials needed and linen supply on daily basis; maintains general order and cleanliness of room assigned.

  • Directly supervises student technologists during their clinical assignments.

  • Communicates with referring physician and educates as necessary during site tours, trains others under direct supervision of Chief MRI Technologist.

Basic Qualifications:

Experience


  • Minimum two (2) years experience as registered technologist.

  • Minimum one (1) year MRI experience as registered technologist.


Education


  • Associates degree in radiologic technology or two (2) years of experience in a directly related area.


License, Certification, Registration


  • Basic Life Support OR CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers



  • American Registry of Radiologic Technologists Certificate - Magnetic Resonance Imaging



Additional Requirements:


  • Knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy.



Preferred Qualifications:


  • Minimum one (1) year Computed Tomography (CT) experience as registered technologist, including experience or successful completion of training program (pre-hire, post-hire, or on-the-job) in area of specialty, if applicable.

  • MRI Certification from an accredited MRI program of technology.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of statistical data analysis techniques, industrial occupational operations, and Kaiser systems/organization.
