Job Summary:

The Clinical Informaticist is responsible for understanding clinical workflows, operational procedures and organizational policies to support the technical, cultural and process changes necessary for successful implementation and optimization of the electronic health record at Maui Health. This position provides frontline support for clinical staff for proper use and optimization of KPHC (Epic) and related ancillary systems. The Clinical Informaticist works closely with the subject matter experts in each area to facilitate educational and change management processes for implementation of changes.


Essential Responsibilities:


  • Coordination/Collaboration. Collaborates with multidisciplinary team members to assess, redesign, and continually improve effectiveness and productivity of clinical systems. Builds effective networks of internal and external subject matter experts. Meets with stakeholders to review solutions and issues and to gain commitment on recommendations. Participates in multiple aspects of electronic medical record development and implementation. Participates in planning of go-live elbow support, testing activities, reporting, and clinical needs prioritization for the electronic medical record. Coordinate  and collaborate on efforts with site specialists, trainers, and educators. Effectively interprets changes in key indicators for staff and directs staff for in applying information to changes at the unit level.

  • Communication. Anticipates and identifies complex clinical process and informatics issues, monitors and measures the risk factors. Audit/review high risk or problem prone workflows and documentation; identify, implement and evaluate the effectiveness of action plans for improvement, and communicate to regional and Maui Health leadership. Facilitates staff discussion and response to issues which impact clinical practice and care delivery. Interprets organizational goals and objectives impacting the electronic medical record, and related workflows. Responsible for monthly multidisciplinary communication regarding upcoming changes to the electronic medical record.

  • Change Management. Identifies barriers to change and manages ambiguity/complexity. Leads multidisciplinary groups toward solutions. Provides support and coaches stakeholders in effective process analysis and improvement techniques and using data to assess and improve unit performance. Prioritize and implement enhancements and version upgrades. Identify long term optimization strategies.

  • Leadership. Utilizes systems thinking and role modeling so that demonstrated expertise is available to colleagues, end users, and patients. Plays a key role in helping to establish and maintain professional clinical relationships within the hospital system and ensure credibility among stakeholders. Provides system thinking expertise in facilitating review of KPHC changes and downstream impacts.

  • Process Management. Is visibly involved in obtaining customer feedback, incorporating customer requests into service design, and advocating for technical solutions to clinical processes. Guides the creation of processes, within the system abilities to collect and share patient information, reduce redundancy, and standardize clinical practice and documentation.

  • Innovative Collaboration. Champions the incorporation of new technology into clinical practice. Supports innovation in clinical practice and care delivery systems by staying current with literature in healthcare informatics and care delivery. Disseminates and incorporates research findings into practice.

Basic Qualifications:
Experience


  • Minimum five (5) years clinical experience in an inpatient or ambulatory setting.

Education

  • Bachelors degree in Nursing OR Four (4) years of directly related experience. High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) required.
License, Certification, Registration
  • Registered Nurse License (Hawaii) required at hire
Additional Requirements:

  • Demonstrated clinical competence
  • Knowledge of adult learning and coaching principles/styles and ability to effectively utilize them
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written with emphasis on active listening and two way communication
  • Demonstrated leadership ability, including effective partnering
Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum two (2) years experience as informaticist, EMR superuser, and/or clinical analyst.
  • Epic Certification in inpatient clinical tools or ambulatory clinical tools or ability to certify within 1 year.
  • Demonstrated high level competence in current Epic functionality
  • Masters degree in Nursing Informatics or related field
