Description:
Job Summary:

This key strategic leader is responsible for leading all aspects of perioperatvie services at KPWA. Directly accountable for the design and performance of the inpatient hospital surgery center and two ambulatory surgery centers. The scope and responsibility for the leader includes direct accountability for operating budgets, management of staff, development of direct management team and focus on key strategic initiatives. Collaborates closely with RDOs in the geographic markets, as well as, the Surgical Services Service Line Director.

Essential Responsibilities:


  • Partners with the physician chiefs to provide leadership for all aspects of perioperative services at KPWA. Stays current in all regulatory and accreditation practices. Works as key part of hospital structure to drive care to most appropriate setting across the care continuum.

  • Monitors financial performance, repatriation efforts within the surgery centers, operating room utilization and scheduling practices between the clinics and the OR, and physician and staff productivity to contribute to keeping health insurance affordable for KPWA members. Develops capital requests and business cases with the leadership team.

  • Lead a team of direct reports to drive a superb patient experience and a culture of patient safety and reliability. Creates a best place to work for the OR teams and drives a speak-up culture.

  • Implement process improvements and innovative approaches to support excellence, efficiency in operations and adoption of best practices. Drives operating room performance, including collaboration between sites and turnaround times.

  • Use Lean as a management system and people strategy to standardize key processes to reduce waste and engage staff.

Basic Qualifications:
Experience


  • Minimum five (5) years of progressive operating room management experience.

Education

  • Bachelors degree in Nursing, Health Administration, Clinical Quality or a related field.
License, Certification, Registration
  • Registered Nurse License (Washington) required at hire OR Compact License: Registered Nurse required at hire
  • Basic Life Support required at hire
Additional Requirements:

  • Extensive successful management experience in a highly productive leadership role.
  • Prior experience in collective bargaining agreement preparation & negotiation.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading multiple levels of staff in a complex, dynamic environment; advanced knowledge of managed care; industry trends & integrated healthcare systems.
  • Knowledge of accounting principles & applications.
  • Willing to challenge established ways; be innovative & entrepreneurial; and strong budgetary, fiscal, human resource management, strategic planning, verbal & written communication, presentation, MS Office, email and internet applications skills.
Preferred Qualifications:

  • Five (5) years of experience in multiple site operating room management.
  • Healthcare and budget management, and staff and planning experience.
  • Extensive experience working closely with medical staff.
  • Experience in perioperative services administration with demonstrated success.
  • AORN Certification by date of hire/transfer.
  • Masters degree in Nursing, Health Administration, Clinical Quality or a related field.
