Description:
Job Summary:

To clean, prepare for sterilization, assemble, store and dispense and maintain equipment and supplies for the anesthesia department. Assist in direct patient care under direct supervision of physicians or allied health personnel.

Essential Responsibilities:


  • Upholds Kaiser Permanentes Policies and Procedures, Principles of Responsibilities and applicable state, federal and local laws. 1. Assembles basic anesthesia set up. 2. Assembles basic anesthesia equipment and turnover. 3. Provides supplies needed for general/regional anesthesia. 4. Prepares anesthesia procedure trays as requested. 5. Removes and disposes all supplies and equipment following procedures performed by anesthesia providers. 6. Maintains adequate stock of supplies in anesthesia machines and carts, including rotation and replacement of dated items. 7. Maintains adequate stock of supplies in emergency code blue boxes, malignant hyperthermia carts, difficult intubation carts, invasive monitoring carts and regional anesthesia carts as listed on cart inventory. 8. Performs cleaning, sterilization and decontamination of all non-disposable anesthesia related items. 9. Coordinates patient monitoring and equipment availability with PACU and Critical Care Units. 10. Assists with set-up of invasive monitoring equipment in routine and emergency situations: arterial line, central venous pressure line, Swan-Ganz, cardiac output, fiber optic intubation and regional nerve block. 11. Assists with patient transport to the operating room, including placement of the patient on the OR table and non-invasive monitors (NIBP, EKG, SpO2 temperature). 12. Assists in direct patient care under direct supervision in routine and emergency situations: arterial line, central venous pressure line, Swan-Ganz, cardiac output, fiber optic intubation and regional nerve block. 13. Assists anesthesia provider with induction of anesthesia, including cricoid pressure for intubation as directed. 14. Picks up and delivers lab specimens, ABGs etc. 15. Assists with patient transport to PACU/ICU including preparation of oxygen source and transport monitors. 16. Coordinates with Environmental Services for prompt operating room turnaround time. 17. Coordinates with Pharmacy to maintain stock, return and replace all outdated items except controlled drugs. 18. Prepares and processes all anesthesia-related items that require disinfection, decontamination and sterilization. 19. Coordinates with Unit Manager to maintain and revise inventory par levels for all supplies and equipment. 20. Inspects instruments and equipment for damage and initiates appropriate repair and replacement process. 21. Ensures availability of backup monitoring equipment at all times and provides timely replacement as needed. 22. Maintains records and documentation of equipment quality checks performed in the department. 23. Participates in the orientation and training of new employees. Promotes, ensures, and improves customer service to internal/external customers by demonstrating skills which are consistent with the organizations philosophy of providing extraordinary customer relations and quality service.
Basic Qualifications:

Experience


  • High school graduate.

  • Health Science courses taken or under study.

  • Minimum of six (6) months previous Anesthesia tech experience within the last three (3) years or graduate of Anesthesia Tech program.

  • Understanding of Anesthesia department equipment, procedures and principles of asepsis are required.

  • Must have good manual dexterity and mechanical ability including ability to lift 45 lbs. from overhead position.

  • Must have ability to bend and walk in narrow spaces without contaminating sterile supplies.

  • Must have good peripheral vision.

  • Must have the ability to stand or walk continuously.

  • Must have command of English language and legible handwriting.

  • Must have ability to exercise independent judgment within the job description and department policies, work independently with minimal supervision and communicate effective verbally and in writing.

  • Must have working knowledge of KPDS, EMSR and basic computer ability.

  • Work record must show excellent attendance, punctuality, initiative and motivation.

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Preferred education includes certification by the American Society of Anesthesia Technologists and Technicians as a Certified Anesthesia Technician.
