Description:
Job Summary:

Directs the day-to-day operations of the entire embryology lab team, including all personnel activities, technical oversight, reporting requirements, general workflow, and budgets. Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local requirements.



Essential Responsibilities:


  • Under the direction of the IVF Center Manager, IVF Program Director, and Regional IVF Lab Administrator, manages the actual embryology process involved in - IVF (In Vitro Fertilization) egg retrievals, embryo transfers, fertilization of eggs, cryo-storage of embryos and sperm, Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI) procedures, assisted hatching, Preimplantation Genetic Testing (PGT), sperm preparation, embryo culturing, embryo evaluation and monitoring.

  • Responsible for completion of all laboratory tasks and quality assurance /quality control measures including coordinating with inter-regional reproductive labs for service and technical support.

  • Recruits, hires, trains, manages, and motivates the embryology lab team toward continuously improving outcomes.

  • Collaborates with clinics and and Business Development Group (BDG) partners to identify strategies for clinical and financial improvement.

  • Ensures timely and accurate Society for Assisted Reproductive Technology (SART) entry - a Center for Disease Control (CDC) requirement.

  • Authors and communicates technical procedures, presentations, and publications to scientific community and internal KP clinicians.

  • Disseminates to technical staff and physicians, appropriate information that would enhance care to Kaiser Permanente members.

  • Coordinates and participates in the clinical laboratory activities of an IVF service as an embryologist, ensuring that all IVF lab services are provided with the highest quality of care in accordance with CAP, The Joint Commission, NCQA, Title 22, and SART Requirements.

  • Consults internally and externally with clinicians and providers on technical issues, patient care management, and test interpretation / selection.

  • Works closely with counterparts at other KPCRH facilities to monitor, oversee and drive consistency and uniformity regarding laboratory procedures to ensure highest quality outcomes.

  • Develops reporting systems to enable statistically based research to ensure outcomes improvement and consistent protocols for successful outcomes.

  • Ensures compliance/regulatory accreditation agencies rules and regulations. Implements effective risk control procedures.

  • Ensures the embryology team has the opportunities for continued education and professional growth.

Basic Qualifications:
Experience


  • Minimum eight (8) years working in an IVF lab.

Education

  • Bachelors degree in Chemistry, Biology or other related science with coursework in mathematics, statistics and physics.
License, Certification, Registration
  • Certified Technical Specialist
  • Andrology Laboratory Scientist (AAB)
  • Embryology Laboratory Scientist (AAB)
Additional Requirements:

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior 2+ (two) plus years supervisory experience.
  • Embryology Lab Director (ELD or EMB) certification preferred.
  • Masters degree preferred.
