Under general supervision of the Department Manager or designee, and direct supervision of the section supervisor, utilizing high volume, advance, and integrated pre and post-analytic automation systems, computer applications and also manual procedures as required, receives, sorts, aliquots, labels and delivers specimens; archives and retrieves specimens, prepares, packages and labels specimens for shipping; answers telephones; resolves problems involving specimens; operates, maintains and trouble shoots equipment; and performs other related duties.
Essential Responsibilities:
Utilizing high volume, advance, and integrated pre and post-analytic automation systems, computer applications and also manual procedures as required, receives, sorts, aliquots, labels, recaps, prioritizes and delivers specimens to correct technical department. Reviews transmittal documentation for accuracy. Operates automated specimen processing equipment and associated software. Maintains automation (preventative maintenance, cleaning, etc.) and does basic troubleshooting. Performs appropriate functions on various information technology systems and computer applications, e.g., RILIS (Region-wide Integrated Laboratory Information System) and middle-wares, for electronic processing of specimens, including the use of barcode readers and printers. Prepares specimen transport containers for delivery to facility laboratories. Packages, labels, and records specimens for forwarding to other laboratories. Answers telephones and relays accurate information to the caller. Provides customer service when required. Researches, resolves and follows through on specimen or patient data problems per SOP, using RILIS or other information technology systems or resources available. Archives, retrieves, tracks, and destroys specimens per SOP using automated laboratory systems. Keeps work area neat, clean and well stocked. Initiates computer generation of selected reports per SOP, and routes to the facilities as appropriate. Maintains and trouble shoots printers. Must be able to perform all Laboratory Assistant I duties Trains and orients new employees as necessary. Performs other related tasks as required. Supervisory Responsibilities: This job has no supervisory responsibilities. Compliance Accountability:

Must be able to perform all Laboratory Assistant I duties. Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization. Must be willing to work in a Labor Management Partnership environment.
