Job Summary:

The Perioperative Sterile Processing Manager is a key member of the Perioperative Leadership team of the Kaiser Washington region. This position is accountable and has oversight for leading sterile processing operations throughout the region for clinical, procedural, and surgical services.  This includes business development and oversight of personnel, leadership team, clinical quality, patient care and service, and financial outcomes for sterile services. This position partners with Periop Leaders, Chiefs, and Clinical teams to identify and implement process improvement initiatives and provides strategic direction to the Perioperative Director. Further accountable for inventory systems administration, OR instrument supply chain, as well as consulting on instruments purchasing and equipment compatibility oversight. Accountabilities are realized by partnering with physician leaders, ambulatory surgery managers, service leads, and key stakeholders across the continuum of care to improve and enhance operating room cost control, clinical performance, maximize quality, access, satisfaction and patient safety. Working closely with Permanente Medical Group and KPWA leadership this position is responsible for building effective partnerships and promoting collaborative relationships that optimize organizational outcomes and success. Reports to the Regional Perioperative Director.


Essential Responsibilities:


  • Leadership: Oversight of Sterile Processing throughout the region, leading a team of Assistant Sterile Processing Managers and indirectly supporting frontline Sterile Processing Techs. Develops and provides leadership within Perioperative Services, assembling teams, assigning individual responsibilities, identifying resource needs, developing schedule, and ongoing direction of teams. Includes process design, development of goals & objectives, work plan & decision criteria, team facilitation, financial and market feasibility analysis. Develop a culture of quality, patient safety and strong staff engagement. Functions as interface/liaison across organizational structures to facilitate coordinated strategy.

  • Inventory Systems Administration: Create, Cultivate, and Maintain regional OR instrument inventory system, including supply chain management, and instrument purchasing and equipment compatibility oversight.

  • Instrument Tracking: Effectively and Efficiently manage the instrument tracking throughout the region to ensure safety, quality, and equipment -supply chain services needs are sufficient and support the best patient and clinical experience.

  • Maintain data systems to track instruments use during surgical/procedural cases by patient.

  • Financial: Direct oversight and responsibility for Sterile Processing budget, and instrument supply chain. Utilizing national cost track in OneLink manage budget and distribution of supply across the region.

  • Program/Project Management and Quality Control: Develops point of view regarding patient and customer requirements to inform program development and execution. Does the follow through to assure that program tasks are complete. Continuously identifies and implements process change & quality improvements and planning methodologies to enhance performance across programs. Ensures all program requirements and/or objectives are properly documented. Resolves critical areas and keeps key stakeholders abreast of program/quality status.

  • Education and Training: Applies subject matter expertise and coordinates with leaders in Quality, Safety, Infection Prevention and other areas to establish required training and develop/maintain competencies for Sterile Processing staff.  In coordination with these leaders, develops/updates standards and materials used to train clinical staff in correct procedures for point-of-use high-level disinfection (e.g. Trophon) as well as storing, handling, pre-cleaning, packaging/transporting, and maintaining accountability of sterilized/HLD items.

Basic Qualifications:
Experience

  • Minimum five (5) years experience direct team leadership/management.
  • Minimum two (2) years of program or project management experience.
  • Minimum five (5) years of sterile processing experience.
Education

  • Bachelors degree in healthcare or general studies required OR four (4) years of experience in a directly related field.
  • High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) Required.
License, Certification, Registration
  • Registered Central Service Technician Certificate OR Sterile Processing Distribution Technician Certificate
Additional Requirements:

  • Excellent project management skills including timelines, scope, and cost management.
  • Ability to read and interpret financial data.
  • Proficient in MS Word and Excel.
  • Knowledge of quality improvement, quality planning, systems theory and business strategy development.
  • Writing and data analysis skills.
  • Communication, interpersonal, organizational and customer service skills.
  • Progressive experience in program man
  • agement including experience in large scale, cross functional program/project management with demonstrated experience integrating products, technologies, and business processes within a Healthcare environment.
  • Experience with Quality and Safety guidelines and programs.
Preferred Qualifications:

  • Healthcare, strategy implementation, and operations experience.
  • Understanding of healthcare industry and terminology.
  • Experience with strategic design and implementation.
  • Supply Chain and Management experience within healthcare.
  • Masters degree in healthcare or general studies.
  • Certified Healthcare Leader (IAHCSMM) OR Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution - Management Certification (CSPDM).
