Job Summary:

The Regional President position is a critical senior-level leadership role as both the regions senior health plan and hospital leader and as a member of the national leadership team for the overall KP Program.  The Regional President is directly accountable for ensuring that Kaiser Permanente develops the capability to deliver superior quality care and service while also appropriately deploying its resources and positioning itself in its respective markets and in the industry to achieve long-term success and viability.  The NW Regional President reports to the EVP, Group President, and Chief Operating Officer of Care Delivery and is the primary health plan partner to the local medical group holding appropriate authority to commit and speak for the health plan as outlined in the corporate governance of Kaiser Foundation Health Plan. The Regional President is directly accountable for understanding and anticipating industry trends and for the delivery of health care and health plan services to members and customers in the market and accomplishes this in partnership with the Northwest Permanente Medical Group.  The Regional President also works in partnership with the Health Plan Operations team in the delivery of health plan products and services.  The Regional President is accountable for assuring continual assessment of market opportunities/challenges and developing and implementing business and operational plans that address growth/market share, service and quality of care, work environment, employer of choice climate, revenue, cost, and margin targets, capital requirements and community involvement. The Regional President must balance and represent the multiple perspectives and priorities of the market and the national program in his/her leadership approach.  The success of the Regional President is evaluated against his/her ability and competence to produce the desired results within the market while supporting enterprise initiatives to create consistency and efficiency across the KP Program. The Regional President is accountable for sponsoring and championing local and enterprise initiatives in their market including cultivating the support necessary to achieve the desired objectives of the initiative.  As an active member of the Regional Presidents Group (RPG), the Regional President participates in the development of program-wide strategy on operational issues related to capital and business plans, budgets, performance improvement measures, governance boards, and investing in shared services capabilities to support the program.  The Presidents are co-owners of specific key initiatives sponsored by the National Executive Team (NET) and the ongoing evaluation of these initiatives. The Regional President may also actively serve as a liaison to a major national function.


Essential Responsibilities:

  • Drive operational excellence by executing strategic and transformational initiatives focused on growth, access, clinical quality outcomes, experience, financial performance, and community engagement.
  • Own the market-s P&L, managing performance, quality, service, and growth for 2 hospitals, and 5 affiliate hospitals in the Northwest Market. 
  • Create and execute a vision and strategy for market growth, adapting to changing market dynamics and competitive pressures in collaboration with the EVP of Health Plan, Executive Medical Director, and the Care Delivery Organization. 
  • Stay abreast of the competitive market, industry, and government and regulatory environment to anticipate and assess local market, market, and national program implications.
  • Lead and influence change effectively, working closely with care delivery, health plan, and medical group partners in a shared service model.
  • Drive capital planning processes to include facilities and technology.
  • Optimize resources and capabilities by engaging and leveraging shared services, e.g., health plan operations shared service team to deliver health plan products that meet the market-s needs.
  • Foster a strong community and brand presence by establishing and leveraging relationships with business, government, and healthcare leaders to ensure effective care delivery and community engagement.
  • Demonstrate enterprise leadership - participate in the Regional President Group (RPG) and the National Executive Team (NET); sponsor and develop program-wide strategies and align market /national strategies and initiatives.
  • Manage organizational and Board governance.
  • Develop a high-performing leadership team, cultivate a diverse and inclusive work environment, and foster a sustained, engaged, and committed workforce that aligns with KP-s mission and objectives.

Basic Qualifications:

Experience


  • A minimum of fifteen (15) years of broad experience including strong leadership and management experience and a deep understanding of healthcare industry dynamics and the managed care environment.  


Education


  • Bachelor’s degree required.

Preferred Qualifications:


  • The Regional President should be experienced in running an operation with P&L accountability and should have a deep understanding of healthcare delivery operations and health plans, healthcare financing, and industry issues.

  • Hospital leadership experience preferred.

  • MBA preferred.
