Job Summary:

As part of the Dental Administration team, this position is responsible for providing consultation, planning, implementation, and recommended solutions for Kaiser Permanente Dental Programs Informatics & Technology Portfolio.  Coupling dental business and clinical operations acumen with IT systems knowledge, this position will be responsible for sourcing, implementing, and optimizing dental informatics and technology solutions to improve efficiency, member satisfaction, and the quality and safety of dental care. This position will collaborate with Dental Health Plan leadership, Permanente Dental Associates leadership, IT and other partners to execute on the Dental Technology and Informatics strategy and multi-year plan.


Essential Responsibilities:


  • Project Management: Function as the business lead in the resolution of complex production problems and enhancements of dental systems. Lead work teams of regional leadership, clinicians, staff, and information technology to define needs, facilitate agreements and decisions. Provide direct business project management and project management consultation in the assessment and implementation of new systems and enhancements, including annual KP HealthConnect upgrades.

  • Business Requirements Analysis: Assess customer needs, research options, support analysis, design, testing and implementation of application solutions and tools to meet specific department, team or strategic needs. Identify and define requirements to improve system adoption and optimization. Analyze and recommend implementation of release notes and change requests.

  • System Implementation and End User Adoption: To sustain efficient current and future functionality, provide expert operational and dental informatics expertise for system upgrades and enhancements, and optimization of current functionality.  Assess workflow impacts of changes and develop implementation plans, change management plans, communication plans, training plans and ongoing support plans.

  • Technology Operations:  Support Informatics Leadership to ensure efficient operational support for all information technology for the Dental Program including network & telephony infrastructure, practice management applications, electronic dental records, dental lab systems, dental imaging systems, and dental member facing technology. Collaborate with IT to ensure dental technology support requirements are consistently and reliably met, and demonstrate continuous effort to improve operations, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless customer service. Own resolution of escalated issues to a satisfactory and timely conclusion. Foster improved service delivery e.g., request responsiveness, risk and issue management, post implementation reviews, service level agreement metrics, etc. on behalf of the business.

  • Strategic Planning:  Assist with development and implementation of the Dental technology and informatics multi-year plan in partnership with IT and other informatics departments, and in alignment with Dental and KPs overall operating strategy and plan.

  • Operational and Informatics Expertise: Provide expert level operational and information systems consultation in the analysis, development, training, testing and optimization of KP HealthConnect, business, and clinical systems. As the subject matter expert in functionality of Dental systems, provide information to regional leadership, clinicians, and staff as needed.

Basic Qualifications:
Experience


  • Minimum five (5) of IT and/or Informatics Program/Project Management experience.

  • Minimum one (1) year of leading people on projects and facilitating committees as needed.

  • Minimum three (3) years of experience working with large scale change efforts.

Education

  • Bachelors degree in Business Administration, Finance, Healthcare Administration or related field OR four (4) years of experience in a directly related field.
  • High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) required.
License, Certification, Registration

Additional Requirements:

  • Have knowledge of dental terminology and measurements, procedures and codes used in dental clinics.
  • Knowledge of dental science, dental disease/health conditions, and dental terminology.
  • Knowledge of infection control requirements.
  • Knowledge of word processing programs, and ability to work with personal computers and databases.
  • Ability to conduct specific oral tests, ability to communicate orally and in writing, ability to read and understand study protocol requirements, and ability to maintain patient confidentiality.
  • A thorough knowledge of all equipment used in a dental laboratory.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and manage multidisciplinary teams through influence and collaboration. Demonstrated skills in strategic thinking, business planning, and project management skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Current with industry trends in big data and health informatics.
  • Demonstrated leadership strengths - ability to influence others; team oriented; service oriented; demonstrate strategic thinking; ability to deal with people dynamic; ability to resolve conflict.
  • Must exhibit efficiency, collaboration, and candor, openness, and results orientation.
  • Ability to effectively network disparate individuals/group both inside and outside KP.
  • Progressive person who has a solid understanding of dental operations and industry trends.
  • Experience implementing large, complex region-wide programs.
  • Experience with MS Office, including Project, excel, Word, PowerPoint.
  • Proven track record of successful leadership in information technology, health care operations, multi-specialty group model practice, and/or management consulting, including budget development.
