2025 Summer Internship Program

This internship role is scheduled to be flexible. Please be prepared to spend part of your time working remotely and part of your time working at the following address: 4460 Hacienda Drive, Pleasanton, CA, 94588.



Department Description:


NCAL HR Consulting delivers consultation services to managers and employees on HR-related issues that enhance organizational and individual performance throughout the Northern California medical centers and regional offices. Our HR Consulting group serves to develop resolution action plans on HR-related issues, offer guidance on both national and regional HR programs & initiatives, and partner with department management to plan for future resource needs. HR Consulting is designed to be a strategic business partner to our operational leaders and clients, and actively collaborate on behalf of the client with other HR functions that include Compliance, Compensation, Disability Management and Labor
Management.



Intern Project(s):


The HR Summer Interns will have the opportunity to support various region-wide HR projects and are encouraged to bring forward their creative ideas and fresh approaches to our workflows. They will also have the opportunity to play a key role in the maturation of our talent development work and program creation for our HR Consulting population as well as supporting the redesign efforts to streamline processes, workflows and structure to gain efficiencies and alignment across NCAL HR. Examples of particular projects might include – and are not limited to - the development of a pilot process for rotating HR Consultants across service areas and throughout the HR function, identifying, developing and tracking success measures for various internal development offerings and programs (including a newly launched NCAL HR Mentorship Program), as well as supporting work we’re doing to address employee engagement across the region. HR Summer Interns will have significant and repeated opportunities for leadership networking, informational interviews, presenting to leadership in various forums and learning each area of the HR function through learning sessions, shadowing, short term assignments and project management. These roles are highly visible to the leadership team and opportunities for networking at all levels are available daily. This position will report to the Executive Consultant for the Sr. Vice President of NCAL Human Resources.

Target Skills:


Self-starter, high energy and proactively engaged in the work, as well as the ability to work well in a remote/hybrid environment. Must have strong MS Offices skills, PowerPoint/excel/word will be used daily. Superior written and verbal communication skills, articulate presentation skills. Data analytics and interpretation skills strongly preferred. Particular experience in HR is a strong plus, especially in investigations and/or working in a labor environment.



Job Summary:

This position provides analytical support to a project or department. Under the guidance of a Project Manager/ Director, responsible for collecting and researching data, performing analysis, providing recommendations and presenting results.



Essential Responsibilities:


  • Responsible for contributing high level analytical support to a project or department requiring application of knowledge in marketing, information management, finance, management, economics or statistics. This position contributes to a full range of project components.

  • Assigned to at least one project and expected to produce results and report out as a member of a project team. Organizes assigned project tasks, identifies and structures information collection activities, and sets time lines for completion of required tasks as directed.

  • Develops tools to identify and to document best practices. Prepares various excel, word or PowerPoint reports, and works with access database software (or similar tool) to develop data extracts and management information reports. May be asked to produce graphic information using excel or PowerPoint or similar software.

  • Contributes to development of management information and analysis conducted, provides recommendations and assists with preparation of formal presentations to communicate results to various management levels. Identifies alternative solutions to project issues. Contributes to development project plans to ensure timely deliverables and successful completion of project and demonstrates an understanding of various business intersections. Assists with identification and development of training information.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of SQL or SAS highly desirable.
