Description:
Job Summary:

The Senior Director of Development at the Kaiser Permanente Bernard J Tyson School of Medicine (KPSOM) will serve as a visionary leader in establishing and guiding the strategic direction of the schools philanthropic efforts. They will be responsible for building a high-performing development team, designing and implementing comprehensive fundraising strategies, and cultivating philanthropic partnerships to propel the growth and impact of KPSOM.


Essential Responsibilities:


  • Strategic Vision and Leadership:

    • In collaboration with the Chief Advancement Officer (CAO), develop and articulate a strategic vision and annual advancement plan for the Office of Development, aligning fundraising goals with KPSOMs priorities and initiatives.

    • Provide strong leadership to instill a culture of philanthropy and engagement across the school.



  • Major Gifts and Donor Cultivation:

    • Cultivate, solicit, and steward major gifts from individuals, corporations, and foundations to establish a strong foundation for fundraising success.

    • Build and maintain strong relationships with prospective donors and key constituents, including alumni, faculty, staff, and community partners.



  • People Management and Leadership:

    • Build a high-performing development team, recruiting and nurturing talent to create a collaborative and results-oriented work environment.

    • Set clear expectations, mentor staff, and foster a culture of innovation and excellence.



  • Campaign Planning and Execution:

    • Lead the planning and execution of comprehensive fundraising campaigns, working closely with internal partners and collaborators to achieve ambitious financial targets for KPSOMs development priorities.



  • Collaboration and Communication:

    • Collaborate effectively with other offices and departments, faculty, board members, Kaiser Permanente representatives, and other key partners to ensure alignment of fundraising efforts with KPSOMs overall mission and objectives.

    • Clearly communicate the impact of philanthropic support to internal and external audiences through various channels.



  • Prospect Research and Pipeline Management:

    • Oversee the identification, qualification, and cultivation of potential major donors, ensuring a robust pipeline of prospects for future fundraising initiatives.

    • Utilize data analytics to inform strategic decision-making and optimize fundraising efforts.

    • Provide regular reports and updates to the CAO on fundraising progress, donor engagement, and campaign results.



Basic Qualifications:

Experience


  • Minimum eight (8) years of experience in development, major gifts or related.


Education


  • Bachelors Degree.


License, Certification, Registration

Additional Requirements:


  • Demonstrated success in leading and managing a high-performing development team.

  • Proven track record of securing major gifts and successfully leading fundraising campaigns.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with a diverse range of partners and collaborators.

  • Knowledge of and experience in all aspects of fundraising, donor relations, and development required.

  • Demonstrated computer competency in Microsoft Office suites, Zoom, databases and fundraising databases and systems.

  • Willingness and ability to travel and to work an extended and varied schedule including evenings and weekends.



Preferred Qualifications:


  • Minimum five (5) years of supervisory experiencing leading a team.

  • Minimum five (5) years of experience in development or related field in higher education, preferably medical education, healthcare, or complex non-profit environment.
