Description:
Job Summary:

Provides medical equipment planning support for use in the architectural design and construction for standard and non-standard capital projects; collaborates within the team to develop equipment planning documents for new and existing care delivery environments with provision of technical and environmental requirements in support of contract documents; develops standard and non-standard medical equipment plans, including budgets and specifications, for KP medical facilities, major renovations, and expansion of existing medical facilities; establishes a communication network on standard and non-standard projects among the project team, facility, regional personnel, and equipment manufacturers/vendors; utilizes comprehensive foundational knowledge of project management techniques to accommodate various internal and external stakeholder groups needs and conflicting demands to ensure the optimal use of medical equipment; and contributes to functional analysis, value cost analysis, and forecasting as it relates to operations and facility.


Essential Responsibilities:

  • Supports the budget development and cost analysis process by: leveraging a comprehensive foundational knowledge of budgets to develop medical equipment budgets for capital projects; and collaborating with the team on reviewing medical equipment costs, providing cost estimates throughout the life of the project as well as troubleshooting and managing budgets that are going over to resolve with minimal assistance.
  • Supports comparative equipment studies by: contributing to the monitoring of straight forward and somewhat uncommon emerging technologies, assessing new healthcare related technologies, and disseminating healthcare related technology as appropriate to others primarily within the organization; exercising general application of standard functional analysis processes on the equipment as it relates to operations and facility; independently planning and scheduling their own work according to defined periodization/severity scheme; and contributing to value cost analyses.
  • Serves as a company representative by: communicating effectively primarily within the organization with frequent outside contacts; and establishing a communication network proactively on standard and projects of greater complexity among the project team including the architect, contractor, clinicians, facility, regional personnel and equipment manufacturers/vendors.
  • Providing medical equipment planning in support of the architectural design for national capital projects by: creating standard and non-standard equipment planning documents in new and existing care delivery environments; leveraging a comprehensive foundational knowledge of medical equipment planning while assisting with the provision of technical and environmental requirements in support of contract documents with little to no oversight; independently reviews contract documents and drawings to identify equipment and design conflicts during design process to avoid costly construction delays and clinical usefulness and coordinating with vendors while walking the project site to ensure medical equipment (e.g., drains, utilities, wall placement, door openings, path of travel, and room size/dimension) placement on project construction documents and templates; and conducting equipment punch activities and forecasting independently as needed.
  • Specifies medical equipment by: independently evaluating, locating and recommending equipment for individual projects used in architectural design and construction for new medical facilities, major renovations, and expansion of existing medical facilities; preparing medical equipment lists for procurement and monitoring procurement activities independently; interpreting guidelines while working with outside architectural consultants and contractors to provide equipment specifications, noting design and equipment conflicts through drawing reviews; and forecasting equipment lists of greater complexity.
  • Engages in project management responsibilities by: independently using project management techniques of greater complexity and a comprehensive knowledge of project management to consult with user groups and strategic partners to perform a functional analysis of the equipment as it relates to operations and facility; independently leveraging a comprehensive, foundational understanding of stakeholder management to accommodate various internal stakeholder groups needs and conflicting demands to ensure the optimal use of medical equipment; and completing tasks independently for defining key equipment criteria for the project, offering alternative solutions to the design teams to reduce initial or lifecycle cost while maximizing function, and without compromising patient care, ADA requirements, or ergonomics.
Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associates degree in medical, healthcare, architecture, engineering, construction management, or related field AND minimum three (3) years of experience in medical equipment planning, healthcare, clinical engineering, business, biomedical, IT, architectural or construction environment or a directly related field OR Minimum four (4) years of experience in medical equipment planning, healthcare, clinical engineering, business, biomedical, IT, architectural or construction environment or a directly related field.

  • Current, valid RN license in state of practice.
