Description:
Job Summary:

Monitors and supports vendor performance by directing the strategy for examining relevant performance and cost metrics for a portfolio of complex vendors to compare against appropriate benchmarks. Supports vendor relationships by directing communication among complex stakeholders and overseeing any vendor-related business partner issues. Provides direction to the sourcing of new vendors to fill strategic business need as necessary by directing the comparative analysis of the relevant suppliers. Directs supplier contracts by ensuring procurement requests and requirements are included into contract specifications. Directs the adminstration of procurement activites such as requisitions, purchase orders, payments, and returns.

Essential Responsibilities:


  • Prepares individuals for growth opportunities and advancement; builds internal collaborative networks for self and others. Solicits and acts on performance feedback; drives collaboration to set goals and provide open feedback and coaching to foster performance improvement. Demonstrates continuous learning; oversees the recruitment, selection, and development of talent; ensures performance management guidelines and expectations to achieve business needs. Stays up to date with organizational best practices, processes, benchmarks, and industry trends; shares best practices within and across teams. Motivates and empowers teams; maintains a highly skilled and engaged workforce by aligning resource plans with business objectives. Provides guidance when difficult decisions need to be made; creates opportunities for expanded scope of decision making and impact.

  • Oversees the operation of multiple units within a department by identifying member and operational needs; ensures the management of work assignment completion; translates business strategy into actionable business requirements; ensures products and/or services meet member requirements and expectations while aligning with organizational strategies. Gains cross-functional support for business plans and priorities; assumes responsibility for decision making; sets standards, measures progress, and fosters resolution of escalated issues. Communicates goals and objectives; analyzes resources, costs, and forecasts and incorporates them into business plans; prioritizes and distributes resources. Removes obstacles that impact performance; guides performance and develops contingency plans accordingly; ensures teams accomplish business objectives.

  • Supports the management of supplier contracts by: utilizing expert knowledge in many diverse areas of vendor contracting commercial terms and conditions, products, or services to support contract initiation and specification; directing the contract specification process by engaging others on the team to translate highly complex procurement requests and requirements into contract specifications; and developing advanced strategies for negotiating with vendors to make cost-effective acquisitions of products and services, contract renewals, amendments, and credits, and engaging others on the team to implement.

  • Contributes to the administration of procurement activities by: directing the execution of requisitions, purchase orders, payments, and returns; directing the coordination between KP customers and suppliers for procurement of products and services; and developing advanced strategies to verify content and accuracy of purchase or contract requests and supplier quotes and proposals, and engaging others on the team to implement.

  • Supports vendor relationships by: directing vendor communications and responding to questions from internal and external stakeholders as an expert internal consultant and external spokesperson; utilizing expert knowledge of vendors in many areas and engaging others on the team to ensure cost-effectiveness and acceptable performance; and engaging others on the team to identify highly complex and long-term vendor and payment discrepancies and business partner issues for broad initiatives.

  • Leads the supplier sourcing process by: developing advanced strategies for conducting highly complex comparative analysis for supplier proposals and determining cost/benefits, and engaging others on the team to implement; utilizing expert knowledge of sourcing processes in several diverse areas as they relate to commodity categories to ensure continued growth and success; and developing advanced strategies for identifying suppliers that strategically contribute to the needs of specific categories, and engaging others on the team to implement.

  • Supports efforts to maintain vendor performance and monitor performance results by: aligning highly complex and long-term vendor performance metrics, capacities, systems and responsiveness and engaging others on the team to implement plans to establish performance benchmarks; directing the efficient use of highly complex and long-term vendor services; integrating highly complex vendor performance results as an expert internal consultant and external spokesperson regarding issues related to vendor strategy; developing advanced strategies to determine highly complex cost elements to maximize vendor efficiency using appropriate analytical tools for analyses, and engaging others on the team to implement; conducting strategic planning for the analysis of functional statements and cost structures of vendor services, and engaging others on the team to implement; and defining highly complex and long-term internal and external benchmarks to get results by developing meaningful and valid comparisons across vendor performance metrics.

  • Supports the management of vendor performance standards by: conducting strategic planning to monitor highly complex reporting requirements for KP stakeholders, such as quality, capacities, systems and responsiveness, and engaging others on the team to implement; proactively monitoring highly complex vendor scorecards and dashboards to present results to internal and external stakeholders as an expert consultant on broad initiatives; and utilizing expert knowledge in several diverse areas of vendor sourcing protocols, vendor evaluation, selection criteria, buy-to-pay job tasks, rules, and procedures to maximize vendor performance for broad initiatives.

Minimum Qualifications:


  • Minimum two (2) years of experience managing operational or project budgets.

  • Minimum three (3) years of experience in a leadership role with direct reports.

  • Bachelors degree in business administration, information technology, economics, operations research, public health administration, supply chain management, materials management, or other related field AND Minimum ten (10) years of experience in vendor management (including management of vendors across an enterprise to maximize benefits of strategic partnerships and management of contract negotiations), master services, telecommunications, or directly related field OR Minimum thirteen (13) years of experience in vendor management (including management of vendors across an enterprise to maximize benefits of strategic partnerships and management of contract negotiations), master services, telecommunications, or a directly related field.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Four (4) years of experience in project management.
  • Four (4) years of experience managing vendor contracts and relationships.
  • Five (5) years of experience in strategic planning and strategy deployment (e.g., Hoshin Kanri).
  • Five (5) years of contract, materials, or leasing management experience.
