Job Summary:

The Director of Perioperative Service(s) has operational accountability for the all the perioperative services in a Medical Center (Service Area) including the ambulatory surgical center(s) outpatient procedure suites, operating rooms, PACU, central sterile processing, pre-surgical testing, and surgery scheduling. This position is responsible for the assessment, planning, and implementation of care for the ambulatory surgery population and the operational oversight of the functional areas to assure they meet or exceed quality, cost and clinical and utilization standards and performance measurements. This position sets a tone that ensures all areas under their leadership function in a unified and cohesive manner to ensure the best possible outcomes for the members.

Essential Responsibilities:


  • Partners with Medical Center and Regional Health Plan and Medical Group leaders to maximize the resource of the surgeon, ensure operational efficiency, and provide excellent quality, patient satisfying care in a safe environment.

  • In collaboration with partners (above) and Area Administrator and Physician In Chief,establishes goals and targets addressing access, service, people, quality, and facilities and systems.

  • Analyzes systems and processes by which all perioperative services are delivered and implements and/or recommends changes and innovations.

  • Leads implementation efforts for new systems and programs while involving staff and communicating expectations, progress, and opportunities of projects.

  • Ensures all Perioperative staff in trained and competent for the duties they are assigned.

  • Promotes optimal patient care that is in compliance with federal, state and local requirements by supporting and maintaining nursing standards and perioperative department policies and procedures.

  • Develops, establishes and implements policies and procedures in collaboration with Anesthesiology, Service Chiefs, Medical Director of the ASC, and staff (surgicalscheduling, pre-surgical testing, surgery, post anesthesia care unit), and management team.

  • Assures compliance with standards and requirements of regulatory, licensing and

  • accreditation agencies.

  • Manages and monitors staff performance by establishing accountabilities and performance goals related to overall goals and targets, providing the tools to do the job, coaching, giving feedback, counseling, providing training and development, and giving appropriate rewards and recognition to ensure a high functioning team.

  • Manages relationships critical to achieving the effective delivery of care across entities and functions including, but not limited to, medical center operations, ancillary services, area access, provider services center, material management, quality resource management and other support services.

  • Promotes and reinforces customer service to all internal and external customers.

  • Leverages resources and manages financial and non-financial resources and information. Shares best practices, recognizing and capitalizing on size, scale, and capabilities and continuously seeks opportunities for cost restructuring to improve fiscal performance.

  • Monitors quality assurance/improvement, reinforces quality measures in the ambulatory

  • surgery center and implements corrective action.

  • Utilize the KPHC system to verify and validate workflows, support delivery system initiatives and address issues from direct reports and front-line staff as needed.

  • Participates in area and regional initiatives.

Basic Qualifications:
Experience


  • Minimum seven (7) years progressive experience in clinical and managerial roles in a health care delivery system required.

  • Minimum five (5) years of current Operating Room and/or PACU experience or similar relevant professional training and administrative experience required.

  • Minimum five (5) years experience in managerial role or documented leadership experience required.

Education

  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing required.
  • Bachelors degree OR four (4) years of experience in a directly related field.
License, Certification, Registration
  • Registered Nurse License (Virginia) required at hire OR Compact License: Registered Nurse required at hire

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ten (10) or more years in clinical managerial role in health care delivery, preferably managing an Operating Room, PACU or Ambulatory Surgery Center.
  • Certification as an Operating Room Nurse (CNOR) preferred.
  • Masters Degree in related field preferred.
