Essential Responsibilities:
- Patient/Member Care: Provide patient and visitor reception and information. Arrange for transportation for no ambulatory patients. Complete and forward chart request forms. Complete patient processing forms such as admission/discharge documents, chart requests, surgery request forms and obtain patient authorization signatures. Distribute copies of protocols to appropriate personnel. Maintain cardexes on current/former patients. Answer member inquiries. Information and Records: Receive inquiries regarding delinquent accounts. Respond to requests for medical information form outside sources. File patient data and purge patient charts. Pull patient charts and file out card. Request charts. Track and retrieve medical records. Prepare government and regulatory agency reporting forms. Enter data into automated systems. File and maintain data entry forms. Print and distribute computer reports. Maintain/update automated system, cardex and department records. Prepare outgoing mail. Research unidentifiable mail and reroute. Answer and route telephone calls. Organize and maintain department files, records, handbooks and manuals. Respond to requests for information. Remove deactivated files for storage. Administrative and other: Train and orient new or less experienced personnel. Serve as resource person to co-workers by answering procedure questions and assisting in problem solving. Type check requests, materials requisitions and other forms. Type labels, envelopes and file folder tabs. Assume other activities and responsibilities from time to time as directed.
Basic Qualifications:
Experience
- One (1) year of experience as a receptionist required.
- Ability to handle a heavy volume of contact and interaction with the public.
- Background in insurance forms and medical terminology helpful.
- Experience in a medical environment preferred.
- Per the National Agreement, current KP Coalition employees have this experience requirement waived.
