Description:
The Certified Ophthalmology Technician I works under the supervision of the Clinical Supervisor, assumes the responsibility and accountability of performing Ophthalmic tests on patients as requested by Ophthalmologist.
Job Summary:
The Certified Ophthalmology Technician I works under the supervision of the Clinical Supervisor, assumes the responsibility and accountability of performing Ophthalmic tests on patients as requested by Ophthalmologist.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Provides direct and indirect patient care associated with physician office visit.
- Assist provider in the examination and treatment of ophthalmology patients. This assistance includes but is not limited to the following: Examine records and forms and prepares patients for current exam and treatments. Prepare appropriate equipment and instruments for surgery and follow-up care. Assists Ophthalmologist by performing technical tests and records results for procedures for the ophthalmologists analysis and interpretation. Assist in refractive/diagnostic procedures to include manual manifest refractions, auto-refractometry, corneal topography, pachymetry, keratometry, ocular photography, B-scan, A-scan, Retinoscopy, and pupillary reflex and ocular motility testing.
- Conducts vision screening tests to include, but not limited to, the following: Visual acuity, color vision, tonometry, visual fields, pupil exams, and other technical tests required by the ophthalmologist. Record data above tests and determines need for further evaluation. Prepare procedure room. Assist ophthalmologist with clinical procedures and performs as special assistant, using procedures pertaining to all types ophthalmologic surgeries. Prepare patients for and performs general preparation of pre-operative patients. Provide post-operative instructions as directed by the physician.
- Assist provider in contact lens cleaning, dispensing, insertion/removal, and patient instruction. Prepare and fit patients with special optometric devices as instructed by the provider. Instruct patients in correct care, hygiene post procedurally. Order and maintain ophthalmologic medications and supplies. Complete daily, weekly, and monthly. Medication administration with appropriate competency.
- Quality Initiatives for the department.
- Other duties as assigned.
Basic Qualifications:
Experience
- Minimum three (3) years of experience as an Ophthalmic Technician.
Education
- High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) required.
License, Certification, Registration
- Basic Life Support required at hire
Additional Requirements:
- Fully proficient in Goldman Visual Fields, Manual Refractometry, Corneal Topography, Manual Keratometry, Ocular Photography, Retinoscopy, B-scan, A- scan and Fluorescein Angiography.
Preferred Qualifications:
- CAAHEP-accredited OT program.
