Description:
Job Summary:

Under supervision, prepares supplies and equipment, and fills written and telephone requests for instruments and equipment. Prepares and distributes floor equipment to units.  Delivers case carts of sterile instruments to all operating rooms. Picks up case carts of soiled instruments after procedures. Ensures that all equipment is maintained in a clean and operating condition.

Essential Responsibilities:


  • Delivers floor equipment to all units in the hospital in a timely manner.

  • Cleans and disinfects Biomedical and floor equipment.

  • Cleans and disinfects all equipment, shelves and surfaces using appropriate germicides and/or disinfectants.

  • Checks all equipment for proper function, and Biomedical tagging before delivery.

  • Delivers case carts to designated area in the surgery suite; picks up soiled case carts and returns to central processing for reprocessing.

  • Inventories sterile supplies in Case & Prep rooms; examines sterilization data on sterile supplies and replaces items no longer sterile.

  • Picks up soiled equipment and supplies from nursing units and returns to central processing for reprocessing.  

  • Fills computer and telephone requisitions for all processed medical supplies and equipment; issues according to priority of need; directs requesters to supplies as needed.

  • Establishes and maintains courteous cooperative relations with the public, patients and other personnel.

  • Promotes, ensures and improves customer service to internal/external customers by demonstrating skills which are consistent with the organizations philosophy of providing extraordinary customer relations and quality service.

  • Performs other duties as required.
Basic Qualifications:
Experience


  • Minimum six (6) months of current KP work experience.

Education

  • High school diploma or GED. Successful completion of an accredited sterile processing program or successful enrollment in Kaiser Permanentes sterile processing apprenticeship program.
License, Certification, Registration
  • N/A
Additional Requirements:

  • Effective written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to learn and apply comprehensive knowledge of surgical instruments and appropriated uses.
  • Ability to distinguish sterile from non-sterile and soiled.
Preferred Qualifications:

  • Recent six months of work experience in an inpatient or outpatient clinical setting.
