Plans, develops and implements of departmental goals and objectives. Assesses, plans, implements, evaluates, and ensures optimal patient care delivery to patients according to established standards of care provided. Responsible for operations in Respiratory. Ensures quality patient care and employee satisfaction. Serves as liaison between management, physicians, respiratory personnel, patients/families and other departments. Directs smooth transition of patient care activities. Serves as role model. Supervises assigned staff.
- Ensures optimal performance. Ensures departments have adequate resources and training. Identifies and removes barriers related to efficient daily operations. Â Ensures optimal performance
- Develops and implements plans/projects to improve operational efficiency and effectiveness. Monitors and reports status and progress to Director.
- Develops, establishes, and maintains inter-organization contact with various groups, entities or department. Ensures adequate flow of information and cooperation at all levels.
- Interprets and implements TJC, State and Federal requirement recommendations within department/hospital. Ensures compliance. Evaluates, monitors, and regulates departmental and regional policies and procedures for maintaining standards of infection control, OSHA, TJC, as well as other State and Federal regulations. Maintains clinical expertise in Respiratory Services and is able to function as resource person.
- Delegates authority and responsibility to staff based on competency and capability. Assists in daily review of staff assignments and specialty assignments.
- Serves as consultant to department members, managers, and physicians regarding orientation and staffing needs. Develops and evaluates staff recruitment and retention plans for the Respiratory staff. Plans and develops orientation programs for Respiratory personnel.
- Ensures appropriate staffing and resources are available. Plans, implements, and evaluates staffing patterns to changes as needed. Adjusts assignments to maximize use of resources and ensure smooth flow of schedule. Reviews staffing patterns and changes to assure 24 hour coverage of department. Assumes duties of staff support, operations, or performance improvement/staff development role as needed.
- Develops reports and monitors professional qualifications and technical proficiency of staff for delivery of patient care.
- Develops and evaluates staff recruitment, assessment and retention plans for respiratory program for continuing education and maintenance of qualified staff to deliver care to the population served.
- Collaborates with external training directors to oversee student orientation to Respiratory. Develops and evaluates respiratory preceptor program. Acts as preceptor and resource person.
- Serves as consultant to department members, managers, and physicians regarding operational needs. Establishes inter-departmental standards and procedures to resolve patient care issues. Ensures continuity of patient care.
- Provides opportunities for staff to participate in planning and decision making process. Promotes team approach. Acts as role model. Provides consistent direction for staff. Promotes fair and equitable work environment. Promotes open communication.
- Coordinates delivery of respiratory care with outpatient and inpatient nursing staff. Establishes inter-departmental standards and procedures to resolve patient care issues. Coordinates projects and service standards. Serves as liaison in regards to respiratory operational issues when dealing with specialty heads, departments, and ancillary leads.
- Ensures continuity of patient care. Troubleshoots and resolves operational problems. Delegates operational responsibilities to staff to cover department and surgical specialty needs and follow-ups to assure assignment completion. Directs and monitors respiratory systems and assistants to ensure smooth operations.
- Evaluates new products to improve patient care and reduce operational costs. Submits recommendations to supervisor regarding products/supplies.
- Manages and participates in department/physician research projects to promote professional development. Advises Manager on current technology as applicable.
- Monitors payroll and/or non-payroll budget. Monitors expenditures. Ensures compliance with budget. Promotes effective use of resources. Assists with controlling cost and investigating variances.
- Hires, trains, supervises, counsels, disciplines, and terminates assigned staff as appropriate.
- Communicates goals, objectives, accountabilities, priorities, and authority parameters to assigned staff.
- Minimum three (3) years of acute, critical care, pediatric, neonatal respiratory therapy experience.
- Minimum two (2) years of supervisory experience.
- Graduate of an accredited school of respiratory therapy.
- Documentation of highest level of education achieved must be provided.
- Respiratory Therapist License (Hawaii)
- Basic Life Support from American Heart Association
- Registered Respiratory Therapist Certificate from National Board of Respiratory Care
- Knowledge of healthcare regulations, licensure requirements and risk management principles.
- Knowledge of management and organizational theory and techniques and group dynamics.
- Demonstrated knowledge of and skill in adaptability, conflict resolution, decision making, customer service, group presentations, group process facilitation, influence, interpersonal relations, oral communication, problem solving, project management, quality management, results orientation, systems thinking, team building, teamwork, and written communication.
- Demonstrated knowledge of and skill in word processing, spreadsheet, and database PC applications.
- Bachelors degree in science or any healthcare administration, education, or related area.
