Description:
Job Summary:

Under direct supervision, prepares patient and performs pacemaker interrogation and function analysis, programs pacemaker per physician orders following established policies and procedures.  Spends most of time engaged in analyzing, monitoring and programming pacemakers.

Essential Responsibilities:


  • Must be able to perform all duties of an EKG Technician, including performing EKGs stress tests, and event recorders, required.

  • Must have the demonstrated ability to perform and must perform all the following duties:

  • Implantable pacemaker and defibrillator interrogation and function analysis, including single chamber, dual chamber, and biventricular devices.  Must be able to recognize atrial and ventricular, RV and LV capture and sensing

  • Acute and chronic threshold testing

  • Permanent pacemaker programming per physician orders

  • Remote pacemaker/defibrillator management

  • Maintain Pace-Art (device data base) computer system

  • Complete annual Patient/Device Update reports as required by the Safe Medical Devices Act of 1990

  • Ambulatory electrocardiograph monitoring, scanning, analysis and report generation for physician review

  • ICD interrogation and function analysis

  • ICD reprogramming per physician order

  • Threshold analysis and device programming during pacemaker implant procedure

  • In addition to defined technical requirements, accountable for consistently demonstrating service behaviors necessary to provide superior and culturally sensitive service to each other, our members, vendors and contracted providers.

  • Willing to work in a Labor/Management partnership environment.

  • Willing to upgrade skills as new technology warrants.

  • Possess effective verbal and written communication skills in English required.










  • Able to focus attention on detail, organize and prioritize.

  • Able to take directions and follow work rules. Must be able to stay on schedule.










  • Provide excellent and courteous customer service.










  • Notify cardiologist immediately of abnormal or ominous ECG data.

  • Transmit ECG data to PC Database

  • Review ECG data on PC screens for accuracy.

  • Maintain PC and other Database files.










  • Answers telephone, ascertain callers needs and assists them accordingly

  • Obtains and records pertinent information, releases confidential information only as directed by Provider.

  • Maintains equipment and supplies in clean, orderly, usable condition, and reports malfunctions to proper channels for appropriate action.

  • Completes and processes accurate paperwork in timely manner, logs all tests performed

  • Assures all test results/reports and other necessary information are placed into the patients medical record, and files department copies.

Basic Qualifications:
Experience


  • Minimum one (1) year of inpatient or outpatient EKG.

Education

  • Completion of formal post high school training courses in basic EKG; or equivalent combination of education (lesser) & experience may be considered in lieu of requirements.
License, Certification, Registration
  • Basic Life Support from American Heart Association
Additional Requirements:

  • Pass Kaiser Basic EKG test by 80%.
  • Ability to read basic EKGs and arrhythmias.
  • Familiarity with EKG machines.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and skill in adaptability, change management, customer service, interpersonal relations, oral communication, written communication, systems thinking, and problem solving.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and skill in word processing, spreadsheet, and database PC applications.
  • Effective communication with co-workers, customers, outside vendors, via-face-to-face interaction or on the telephone.
  • Read, Write, Speak and Understand English.
  • Training/giving and receiving instructions.
  • Mathematical ability, attention to detail (e.g. organization, prioritization, proofing), concentration and alertness.
Preferred Qualifications:

  • One 1) year experience in event Holter scanning and stress testing.
  • One (1) year of pacemaker experience.
  • Familiarity with event Holter computer and treadmill.
  • Certified Cardiographic Technician (CCT) by Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI).
  • Associates degree in cardiac technology.
  • Completion of device vendor training (in-service and/or certification).
  • Formal coursework or demonstrated competency in pacemaker, ICD and Biventricular devices.
