Description:
Job Summary:

The position assumes responsibility for developing strategy, leading operations and partnering with physician leaders and other key stakeholders. This position serves as a key member of the leadership team and will participate in strategy, goal setting and is responsible for overall operational effectiveness of the areas of responsibility. In addition, this role will participate in a Maternal/Child Health service line approach to population health and disease management in collaboration with physician leader(s) and administration.



Essential Responsibilities:

DRIVE DEVELOPMENT OF HOSPITAL PERFORMANCE



  • Operate as a key member of the hospital leadership team, developing and implementing strategy to deliver optimal nursing care.

  • Directs and ensures continuous quality and safety of staff and patients and improvement of all clinical practices, services and operations by managing the design and implementation of systems, processes and methods to evaluate and improve safe patient care across the continuum.

  • Be a thought partner to the VP, CNE to drive organizational performance

  • Build focus on analytics to enable the Region to monitor and sustain excellence in performance as well as identify continuous improvement opportunities.

  • Ensure that current reporting systems and oversight processes monitor and identify relevant performance issues in a timely manner. 

  • This includes both financial and key operating reporting systems and metrics that update the regions operating plan.

  • Partner with other operations and regional departments to develop short- and long-term financial and operational plans, as well as appropriate metrics required to strengthen the performance of the organization.

  • Continue supporting existing intra-entity, multi-disciplinary initiatives as well as shape and launch new initiatives that will position the organization to improve performance.


MANAGEMENT OF KEY OPERATION, FINANCIAL AND PROJECT MANAGEMENT PROCESSES



  • Directs and manages the delivery of nursing services and safe patients care standards which are integrated with business plans to meet or exceed quality, service, clinical and utilization standards while remaining cost effective.

  • Ensures that services meet members, physician and internal client needs in a changing, competitive health care market.

  • Plans, develops and/or directs the implementation of service area initiatives within the service line.

  • Shares best practices and standards.

  • Maintains an ongoing state of regulatory readiness

  • Manages and resolves human resource, labor relations, employee and department safety and risk management issues.

  • Responsible for maintaining a management team with the education, experience and skills to lead their respective areas of responsibility in an effective manner.

  • Participates in the Performance Management process including hiring, discipline and termination as required.

  • Directs budget management and resource allocation

  • Manages financial performance and identifies and implements strategies to reduce cost and improve quality and safety of care and service.


BUILDING AN ENVIRONMENT OF PARTNERSHIP AND COLLABORATION



  • Work collaboratively with the clinical support and ancillary departments and leadership that support daily functions in the acute care hospital

  • Build strong, collaborative partnerships with all staff, as well as physicians, contractors, Regional staff, and affiliated partners

  • All leaders are accountable for communication, implementation, enforcement, monitoring and oversight of compliance policies and practices in their departments.

Basic Qualifications:

Experience


  • Minimum eight (8) years of related nursing experience.

  • Minimum three (3) years of managerial experience in Maternal Child Services areas of a major Medical Center or related area.


Education


  • Masters degree in nursing, public health, or business administration OR RN license with six (6) years of nursing management experience.


License, Certification, Registration


  • Certified in Executive Nursing Practice within 36 months of hire OR Nurse Executive Board Certificate within 36 months of hire OR Nurse Executive Advanced Certificate within 36 months of hire



  • Registered Nurse License (Hawaii) required at hire



  • Basic Life Support from American Heart Association



Additional Requirements:


  • Demonstrated knowledge of and skill in decision making conflict resolution, change management, influence, oral communication, written communication, problem solving, quality management and team building.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of operations and healthcare management, Nurse Practice Act, TJC and other local, state, and federal regulations.

  • Must be able to work in a Labor/Management Partnership environment.



Preferred Qualifications:


  • Demonstrated knowledge of and skill in word processing and spreadsheet PC applications.

  • Knowledge of Kaiser organization or HMO.
