Job Summary:

The Chief Radiology Technologist is responsible for daily oversight of the reception and technologist work areas. This position will also be accountable for some training, scheduling and general leadership of the department staff. The chief technologist will perform a variety of standard radiographic procedures in a safe and efficient manner; review and transmit films and reports to appropriate physicians. Perform reception and clerical duties within the Diagnostic Imaging department and prepare required departmental reports.

Essential Responsibilities:


  • Provides direction to staff technologist to assure image quality.

  • Assist with the design and implementation of Diagnostic Imaging processes/procedures/policies.

  • Partners with supervisor to address clinical and professional department operations.

  • Prepares department for daily workload by determining staff assignments & coordinating lunch schedules.

  • Works closely with supervisor to manage department QA/QC review (MSDS Cassette cleanliness, View box cleanliness, Silver recovery checklist, Daily room cleaning checklist, Eyewash checklist, Drug box inventory, Emergency box checklist, Electrical Safety, Physicist surveys, ESR, Dosimeter reports).

  • Determines type, quality and quantity of medical supplies.

  • Site coordinator for student technologist -monitor learning experience daily, fill out evaluations weekly, fill out competency forms as needed.

  • Manage member concerns on an ongoing basis and in supervisor absence.

  • Troubleshoot and manage equipment concerns to include engaging service vendor.

  • Communicates quality issues.

  • Assists supervisor with interviews, staffing, staff meetings, payroll, reports, and special projects.

  • Prepares patient for radiographic procedures by accurately assessing patient needs and providing patient education.

  • Perform Radiographic and/or fluoroscopic procedures.

  • Practices accurate and timely completion of scheduled and unscheduled work to maximize productivity.

  • Demonstrate skills for IV placement and injection of contrast materials.

  • Operates computer and radiographic equipment for image production and documentation of images.

  • Performs quality control measures for the purpose of ensuring optimal quality images.

  • Enters and properly completes all patient information including exam charges and supplies into the Radiology Information System (RIS) and/or other KP application.

  • Prepares films for interpretation by the radiologist in an accurate and timely manner.

  • Exhibits flexibility and adaptability to unique needs of the department and responds appropriately.

  • Communicates abnormal situations to proper sources in a way that facilitates resolution and/or tracking.

  • Actively engages other health care providers (radiologist, ordering practitioners) to ensure quality, continuity and appropriateness of care.

  • Follows department procedures/processes/policies.

  • Practices safety measures in radiography by adhering to all governing regulations.

  • Follows universal precautions, infection control guidelines and sterile technique.

  • Complies with all governing regulations.

  • Stocks and cleans exam rooms/work areas.

  • Takes rotational call for after hours facilities and is responsible for coverage if unable to take call.

  • May be responsible for clinical instruction of student technologist.

  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Applies the professions code of ethics in all aspects of practice.
Basic Qualifications:
Experience


  • Two (2) year as a Radiologic Technologist.

Education

  • High School Diploma or GED.
License, Certification, Registration
  • Radiologic Technologist Certification
Additional Requirements:

  • Demonstrated collaborative/team oriented work style.
  • Ability to analyze, integrate, and use quantitative data/information in making business decisions and problem solving.
  • Understanding of the Kaiser Permanentes core values and service model.
  • Demonstration of good judgment, organizational skills and professionalism.
  • General knowledge of EH&S, OSHA, Radiation Safety and Protection.
  • General knowledge of policies and procedures for the delivery of healthcare services.
  • Complete a Customer Service Assessment.
Preferred Qualifications:

  • Three (3) years of demonstrated leadership and/or supervisory experience.
  • Basic PC skills preferred.
  • Customer service aptitude demonstrated through Customer Service Assessment.
  • Demonstrated strong clinical knowledge base and judgment, preferably in ambulatory care setting.
