The Paramedic role is an ACLS, PALS, and BLS certified member of the interdisciplinary team assisting in providing direct patient care to members in the ACC/CDU. This is a licensed professional who is held to state regulations to practice and can provide departmental support to members of the multidisciplinary team. He/she demonstrates competency in clinical, technical, and interpersonal skills, and promotes excellence in patient care and customer service.
- Team Responsibilities: Provide personalized care and service to every patient, making them feel welcomed, safe, and more at ease. Anticipate and provide for the physical comfort and emotional needs of patients and their families, respecting privacy and maintaining dignity.
- Provide smooth and rapid delivery of patient care and service by sharing work with team members.
- Collaborate with all staff involved in providing care for the ACC/CDU patient, demonstrating an attitude that reflects respect for the responsibilities and priorities of coworkers.
- Communicate openly and effectively with patients, families, physicians and coworkers, using communication techniques appropriate for the situation. These techniques may include actively listening to others, using open body language, maintaining good eye contact, checking for understanding, and providing or receiving feedback calmly and constructively.
- Act as a positive role model for coworkers, speak positively about Kaiser Permanente and departmental decisions, and seek to obtain new or enhanced knowledge and skills.
- Contribute to the improvement of the quality of care and service in the ACC/CDU. Identify opportunities to improve workflow and customer service. Assist in solving problems by participating in department quality improvement meetings and activities.
- Patient Care: Assess members through data collection, performs tasks, and documents upon completion.
- Assist with other tasks within the department to optimize productivity including stocking, patient transport within the facility, and assisting members with activities of daily living.
- Provide direct patient care including but not limited to the following:obtain vital signs, perform EKGs,monitor cardiac rhythms,perform peripheral intravenous insertion,blood and urine collection,apply clean and sterile dressings,wound care,medication administration including IV, IM and PO meds, measure and record intake and output, obtain venous samples and process specimens, provide comfort measures, transport and ambulate patients, initiate C-spine immobilization, including rigid cervical collar and backboard, apply splints and various orthopedic soft goods, assist with respiratory care: set up nasal cannula, venti-mask, and non-rebreather, assist in prepping and monitoring patients for emergency procedures, perform adult male and female catheterization, clean equipment and work area, stock medical/surgical supplies, provide basic response to medical emergencies within the CMC, and process patient care orders using the electronic ordering system may be required in certain areas.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Minimum two (2) years recent (within one (1) year) experience as a Paramedic.
- High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) required.
- Current licensure as a Paramedic by the State of Georgia is necessary or Documented completion of an Emergency Tech training course.
- Emergency Medical Technician Certificate - Paramedic (Georgia) OR Practical Nurse License (Georgia)
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support required at hire from American Heart Association
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support required at hire from American Heart Association
- Basic Life Support required at hire from American Heart Association
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills.
- Excellent clinical skills including but not limited to IV insertion, venipuncture, arrhythmia recognition and orthopedic splinting and casting.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Documented completion of an Emergency Tech training course.
- Proficiency with patient tracking systems, automated physician orders and supply chain
- three (3) years as a military medic or Paramedic preferred.
