Job Summary:

Under indirect supervision, provides functional direction to staff of Transportation Aides and maintains effective and efficient transportation functions. Such functional direction includes but is not limited to conducting orientation, training and providing in-service education. Additionally the incumbent in this job will provide input for performance evaluations, compile and maintain departmental transportation records as required. Transport patients, medical equipment, specimens and supplies within all areas of the medical center.

Essential Responsibilities:

- Upholds Kaiser Permanentes Policies and Procedures, Principles of Responsibilities and applicable state, federal and local laws.
- Provides functional direction to assigned Transportation Aides by receiving incoming special requests from various departments to transport patients, supplies, and equipment and assigning such requests to appropriate Transportation Aides.
- Provides orientation, training and in-service programs.
- Schedules and prioritizes work and task assignments through the Automated Dispatch System (ADS) or manual system if ADS is unavailable.
- Reviews and recommends revisions to transportation policies to insure efficient use of Transportation Aides.
- Transports patients (pre-operative, post-operative, Hemodialysis etc.) by wheel chair or gurney within the medical center.
- Picks up routine and STAT laboratory specimens, blood, equipment, supplies and other appropriate materials (medical or other), including data reports on regular routes or as required and delivers to appropriate location in hospital facility.
- Transports expired patients to the morgue.
- Picks up soiled patient equipment and supplies from Nursing units and transports to Central Processing.
- Transports equipment from NICU to central processing as requested.
- Performs CPR and responds to code blue pages as necessary.
- Using prescribed practices of infection control standards, maintains cleanliness of assigned work areas and equipment, which includes decontaminating wheel chairs and gurneys and preparing gurneys for transport.
- Assists physician and/or other hospital personnel in positioning, restraining, and draping patients as directed.
- Establishes and maintains courteous, professional, cooperative relations with the public, patients, and other personnel.

Basic Qualifications:


Experience



  • Two (2) years of previous experience as a Transportation Aide.

  • Driving record free of citations with forfeit of bail for driving while intoxicated or driving while under the influence of drugs or reckless driving.

  • Working knowledge of Title 22 and Joint Commission standards for transportation services.

  • Ability to demonstrate knowledge of medical supplies and equipment.

  • Demonstrated ability to follow written and oral directions.

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively.


Education



  • N/A


License, Certification, Registration



  • Basic Life Support within one (1) months of hire


 


Preferred Qualifications:



  • High School Diploma/GED, preferred.

  • Nursing Aide certification, preferred.

  • Valid Class C California driver's license.

  • Current California driver record information sheet, preferred.

  • Must have a driving record free of accidents involving the applicant's negligence, preferred.
