The KPMF CMIO is an executive position reporting to the KPMF Chief Clinical Officer that develops and executes an informatics strategy on behalf of KP Medical Foundation Markets, with an advisory role for Risant. The strategy uses informatics and technology to turn discrete data into insight for patients, physicians/providers at the point of care, and patient populations. This insight should lead to outcomes that improve member service and increase value (quality and affordability), serving as a framework for value-based care and spreading best practices throughout KP and Risant. These technologies may impact the efficiency and workflows of our physicians negatively and so the CMIO must also mitigate the negative impact on physician career and efficiencies and maximize where Health IT can be part of the solution for efficiency and physician wellness.
- Develops Health IT strategy to meet the needs of both KPCO + KPWA
- Provides leadership and content for technology components of the Value Based Platform, serving KP and Risant
- Leads KPCO + KPWA Informatics Market Leaders and partners with KFHP VP for Care Delivery IT to develop strategies that represent combined priorities
- Participates and works with KP National IT and PMG IT leader group to influence informatics and Health IT strategy and direction, and facilitates smooth implementation of national Health IT projects across KPMF
- Scouts market and industry for changes in informatics and incorporates relevant trends/products into KPMF and Risant strategies
- Partners with KPMF Innovation Leader to facilitate Health IT Innovation
- Supports standardized cybersecurity policy across both markets
- Ensures that technologies remain relevant and adequately supported with appropriate resource prioritization, and leads when transitions to new technologies are indicated
- Seeks to align technologies across KPCO + KPWA for improved reliability and decreased costs
- Facilitates health information exchange across both internal and network partners
- Sponsors development and execution of digital solutions
- Partners with KPIT as the principal advocate for innovative uses of clinical data
- Represents the combined markets of KPCO + KPWA for CD PAC and other national committees, as well as local IT Investment Budget meetings (RAC)
- Ensures compliance and regulatory requirements are met with regards to technology
- Partners with Medical Director of Population Health Informatics - both locally and nationally for development and use of registries, care gap development and outreach method to improve care for populations
- Partners with KP AI and emerging technologies leadership to ensure the best and safest strategies are implemented in service of the quintuple aim
- Partners with Medical Director of Documentation and Coding to improve appropriate chronic disease state management documentation and improve chart etiquette in KPHC
- Incorporate an equity lens in all activities, including (but not limited to) evaluations of systems, processes, and people and program development
- Act as the clinical point of contact for cross-KP engagements related to informatics (including Risant Health orgs and its Value-based Platform)
- As needed, coordinate with new Risant organizations to identify opportunities to advance and reconcile clinical technologies
- Other duties as assigned
- Minimum ten (10) years of experience in a complex, multi-faceted health care setting demonstrating direct experience with: Building strong partnership in a matrix organization, partnership with external vendors, partners, and networks, consulting, operations.
- Minimum eight (8) years of experience leading the implementation and/or optimization of Electronic Medical Records.
- Minimum five (5) years of experience in a health care business leadership role.
- MD or DO
- Completion of approved residency program
- Board Certified by American Board of Medical Specialties
- Must be practicing 0.2 FTE clinician with Colorado Permanente Medical Group and/or Washington Permanente Medical Group (can be assigned post-hire if not already in one of these groups)
- Experience assisting other providers in optimizing the usefulness of the Electronic Medical Record
- Previous experience managing IT strategy for a medical organization
- Demonstrated thought leadership in area of health informatics
- Demonstrated success in managing multiple aspects of health care strategy; managing in a complex, managed care environment is desirable
- Experience with integrating systems and services to efficiently maximize service and to support the organizations mission and goals
- The ability to balance strategic development and day-to-day operation responsibilities. Demonstrated skills in team building and organizational development
- Communication skills characteristic of an executive who excels in communicating in a variety of formal and informal presentation settings, large and small, both inside and outside the organization, and issuing cogent and consistent written messages that build confidence and achieve desired outcome
- Demonstrated ability to impact outcomes using influencing skills
- Thorough understanding of the healthcare industry, particularly related to physician use of technology and efficiency tools
- Thorough knowledge of legal, regulatory, ethical, managerial, organizational requirements, principles, and standards of care for hospitals and healthcare systems
- Extensive experience working with physicians and other clinicians; must have examples of successful collaborative efforts in a business partnership with clinical, business, physician, and labor leaders
- Demonstrated leadership and an ability to influence and motivate others.
- Familiarity with KP integrated model, operations, and markets is strongly preferred.
- Board Certified in Medical Informatics
