Description:
Job Summary:

Under indirect and direct supervision, operates diagnostic ultrasound equipment to perform a variety of routine and specialized technical procedures. Competency and efficiency in operating various ultrasound machines and probes to achieve high quality images for detailed fetal anatomic surveys, transvaginal ultrasounds, biophysical profiles, specialized Doppler studies, chorionic villus sampling, amniocentesis, and other procedure as needed.

Essential Responsibilities:


  • This position, knows and complies with all Kaiser Permanente quality, safety, and emergency policies and procedures. Demonstrates quality and effectiveness in work habits and clinical practice in every interaction with patients, colleagues, providers, and leadership. Ensures patient safety in the preparation and provisioning of care related to but not limited to medications, procedures, infection prevention, fall prevention, including consistent use of two patient identifiers and procedural time outs. Reports safety hazards, accidents and incidents, and unsafe working conditions promptly.

  • Reviews patients medical records to obtain and record identifying information required for perinatology, instructs patient in preparing for examination and explains procedures to be performed.

  • Positions patient to obtain desired images in accordance with physicians instructions.

  • Operates, calibrates, adjusts, and maintains ultrasound equipment.

  • Performs calculations and measurements to appropriately focus the exam and obtain the data needed.

  • May preform other duties within the department as requested.

  • This position requires the ability to evaluate a situation and determine the best method of achieving optimal ultrasound images is essential.

  • Assisting with prenatal diagnosis and termination procedures including selective reduction as medically indicated or patient preference.

  • Must have compassion and emotional stability to deal with the challenging situation of a sick or deceased fetus.

  • In addition to defined technical requirements, accountable for consistently demonstrating service behaviors and principles defined by the Kaiser Permanente Service Quality Credo, the KP mission as well as specific departmental/organizational initiatives. Accountable for consistently demonstrating the knowledge, skill, abilities, and behaviors necessary to provide superior and culturally sensitive service to each other, to our members.

  • The union and the company are currently investigation the bargaining unit status of this position. If it is determined that this is a bargaining unit position, bargaining unit status (seniority dates, dues payments etc.) will be applied on a retroactive basis based on the employment commencement date.
Basic Qualifications:
Experience



  • Minimum of two (2) years of Perinatal Sonographic experience required.

  • Per the National Agreement, current KP Coalition employees have this experience requirement waived.

Education

  • High School Diploma OR General Education Diploma (GED) required.
  • Two (2) years of college level education or equivalent experience in a health care field.
  • Completion of an approved training program Diagnostic Medical Sonography or equivalent program.
License, Certification, Registration
  • Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer Certificate - Ob-Gyn from American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers
  • Reg Diagnostic Med Sonographer Fetal Echocardiography Certification within 12 months of hire from American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers
Additional Requirements:

  • Advanced knowledge of fetal abnormalities and their diagnosis.
  • Proficient in performing detailed scans of fetal anatomical areas and identifying cross sectional fetal anatomy, distinguishing normal from abnormal.
  • Able to track the growth and development of the fetus.
  • Requires independent judgment, ingenuity and initiative.
  • Makes members/patients and their needs a primary focus of ones actions.
  • The ability to travel to multiple sites.
  • Highly effective interpersonal and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated customer service skills, customer focus abilities and the ability to understand Kaiser Permanente customer needs.
  • Must be able to work in a Labor/Management Partnership environment.
Preferred Qualifications:

  • Credentialed in Nuchal Translucency as granted by the Nuchal Translucency Quality Review or other credentialing body preferred for external and internal candidate.
