Description:
Job Summary:

Under direct supervision assist other Optical Lab Techs in producing and providing eyewear to members in a timely manner, as established by departmental policies and guidelines.

Essential Responsibilities:


  • Production: Depending on department typical duties/tasks may include: deboxing, verification of lenses/frames, taping, blocking, deblocking, picking lenses/frames, stocking lenses/frames, backside coating, wash up lenses, tool picking, mail/shipping, answering phones, receiving stock, ordering stock, mounting and data processing. Reference Lab Training Skills spreadsheet for a more complete list.

  • Assist other lab personnel in duties as directed.

  • Clean and maintain optical lab and equipment as directed.

  • Develop skills in assigned department with the goal of gaining proficiency in a minimum of 8 different tasks to qualify for promotion to Lab Tech II.

  • No prior experience required, this is an entry level position.

Education

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
License, Certification, Registration

Additional Requirements:

  • Good hand/eye coordination, visual acuity and color perception.
  • Good oral and written communication skills and able to follow directions.
Preferred Qualifications:

  • One (1) year of optical lab experience.
  • Basic optical knowledge.
  • Basic knowledge of departmental and Kaiser Permanente organizational safety rules and standards.
  • Knowledge of optical surfacing equipment, finishing equipment or optical lab software.
